Panther Post #24

St. Paul Community,

What is Lent all about? Why do Christians receive ashes on Ash Wednesday? Why 40 days? If you’re looking for answers, you’ve come to the right place. In an updated version of our classic video (with a bonus extra minute — because there’s a lot happening here!), Busted Halo explains the significance of this season of prayer, fasting, and giving, and how you can make the most of this time of repentance and renewal.

Visit Bustedhalo.com/lent for more Lenten inspiration.

Congratulations to our grade 2 students who received the sacrament of  Reconciliation today! It is a wonderful way to prepare for Easter!

As Black History Month draws to a close, we wish to extend our recognition, celebration, and appreciation for the remarkable achievements and invaluable contributions made by Black Canadians in shaping and enriching our country. Their efforts have played an important role in forging the diverse, inclusive, and resilient fabric of Canada today. While we understand the importance of integrating and embedding black history teaching and learning throughout the whole year, February serves as a dedicated time for focused and intentional reflection on the lived experiences of Black people, past and present. St. Paul is committed to fostering equity and inclusion and we believe that embracing and sharing the cultural richness within our school and community is essential in dismantling harmful biases and deepening our mutual understanding. We encourage you to engage in these purposeful and intentional conversations in your home as well, further enriching our collective appreciation and awareness.

Pink Shirt Day holds significant importance as a powerful symbol of unity against bullying and discrimination. Originating from a simple act of kindness when two Canadian students stood up against bullying by wearing pink shirts, this day has grown into a global movement advocating for kindness, empathy, and respect. We will support, model and wear our pink shirts this week as a community and in the community! By wearing pink shirts we show our commitment to creating safe and inclusive environments where everyone feels accepted and valued. This intentional day serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to stand up against all forms of bullying, promoting empathy and understanding as fundamental principles in fostering positive relationships and nurturing a compassionate school community. Join us on Wednesday, February 28th to create awareness by wearing PINK

Promoting Health and Well-Being – 15 Coping Strategies For Kids
Kids experience a vast array of feelings, just as adults do. They can feel bored, anxious, sad, disappointed, embarrassed, and scared—to name a few. While most of us experience any number of emotions from day to day, we are not necessarily taught how to deal with them or how to cope.
Kids need to learn skills to manage their emotions healthily. It’s important to teach them coping skills that can help them face their fears, calm themselves down, and cheer themselves up. Read more at https://www.verywellfamily.com/coping-skills-for-kids-4586871

Panther Post February 19th – 23rd

Dear Panther Community,

Although February is a short month, many great things are happening in our school and community. We celebrated Shrove Tuesday, and came together for our Ash Wednesday liturgy, to begin Lent. We enjoyed Valentine’s Day and our big fundraiser! Additionally, report cards and IEPs went home! We continue to learn about the contributions of Black excellence in our communities past and present.

With Family Day weekend here, we wish everyone a beautiful family weekend!

REMINDER there is NO school tomorrow!

Lent is a 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It’s a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord’s Resurrection at Easter.
Did you know that Growing in Faith, Growing in Christ is the Religious Education program endorsed by the Catholic Bishops of Ontario and developed in collaboration with Catholic educators from across Canada that we use daily in our schools. The program is based on the Catholic Elementary Curriculum Policy Document for Religious Education, Grades 1-8 and Catholic School Kindergarten Program.
Growing in Faith, Growing in Christ has a variety of Lent and Easter resources to help bring meaning to this faith-filled celebration of this holy season. Check it out to continue learning about Lent and Easter at home
