The safety of students at St. Paul is our main priority. Today, our students and staff participated in a Lockdown Drill in the school at approximately 10:00 am. A Lockdown situation can take on the various scenarios:
- “Lockdown”: Will be used if there is a major incident or threat of violence within the school or in relation to the school; (e.g., intruder)
- “Hold and Secure”: Will be used when it is desirable to secure the school due to an ongoing, unrelated situation outside the school (e.g., bank robbery)
- “Shelter in Place”: Will be used when it is necessary to hold all occupants inside a school to protect them from external situations (e.g., chemical spill)
Staff and students followed a prepared set of procedures to promote consistency, safety and to minimize injury. Mr. Mitchell and Ms. Santomero walked the school and checked the portables to ensure all procedures were in place (e.g., doors locked, lights off, no students in sight, etc). Our staff and students conducted the drill with great success.
Thank you again to our friends at YWCA Childcare, who continue to collaborate with our efforts to practice our safety procedures, including fire drills and lockdowns, to familiarize students on how to stay safe in the event of an emergency situation.
I ask that you spend some time discussing the emergency procedures with your son/daughter this evening.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will also be practising our safety procedures for a safe exit in the event of a fire.
Please contact the office staff if you have any questions or concerns.
Ms. C. Santomero
