Monthly Theme: EMPATHY

We are looking for a new Lunch Hour Supervisor – this is a paid position with the Board, and involves 1 hour per day (from 11:05 – 12:05). If you are interested, please call the main office.

All Pizza days will be cancelled until the current CUPE job action is ended. We apologize for the inconvenience. Once the job action has ended, families who have purchased pizza through cash Online will be refunded.

In the event of a CUPE strike on Monday, October 7th parents are asked to check their normal media outlets as they would in the event of an inclement weather school closure.

As per our student agendas:

In case of inclement weather, the radio stations will broadcast information regarding severe weather warnings, school closure and bus cancellations. Families may want to have a plan in place at home to respond to the radio announcements. Bus cancellations and school closure notices affecting the schools within the Waterloo Catholic District School Board will be given between 6:15 and 8:30 a.m.

Our Catholic School Advisory Councils play a vital role in our schools and your contributions and efforts are always appreciated.

As a point of information, please be advised that based on the current “strike action” on the part of CUPE members, all fundraising activities are to be put on hold. In the full expectation that this will be revisited upon the conclusion of the job action.

We recognize that much planning and organizing may have already been done and apologize that events will need to be postponed.

CUPE members in the WCDSB include Administrative Assistants, Educational Assistants, Library Technicians, Personal Support Workers, Lunch Hour Supervisors, Child and Youth Care Workers, Payroll and Accounting Associates, Computer Technicians, Communicative Disorders Assistants, and Early Childhood Educators. As fundraising activities often require the collection of monies, additional administrative tasks, and alternative supervision schedules we are unable to responsibly manage this based on “strike actions”.

Thank you for your understanding and please note that we fully expect that all activities will resume once job actions have been resolved.

Please note  – information will be coming out regarding the Dance-a-thon, but dates, etc may need to be altered based on the current job action

As a reminder – students are outside for two 15 minute recesses, plus 40 minutes at lunch, and we go outside in light rain and cold weather (as cold as -19 including wind chill). Please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather – including splash pants, rain jackets, hats, and water-resistant mitts or gloves so they can enjoy their time outside.

Please also consider sending a change of clothes (especially pants, underwear and socks) in case your child falls during recess so we do not have to contact you at work to bring in a change of clothes.

This month our focus is on building Empathy. All the Umbrella Skills can be built with practice and this month we are working to build the empathy piece of your child’s umbrella of wellbeing skills.

EMPATHY TIP #2 End your day with “High low high”

This is a quick exercise you can do around the dinner table or as a family before bedtime.

Have each member of your family recall a high point, a low point and then another high point of their day or week. Take time to listen to each person and ask questions if you want. In order to practice empathy for someone else, we need to understand their journey. For your kids, it’s very beneficial to hear what went well in your day, what you are proud of and also the challenges you are working through.  For parents, this is a great way to get your kids talking about the specifics of their day and improve your parental empathy for the daily rain they face.

Mad Science is returning to St Paul this Fall – please see the attached information regarding the two sessions that will be offered.

PLEASE NOTE – we offer this program only to students in grade 1 – 6
