Extended Day Program

Just a reminder to parents/ guardians of students in the extended day program – there is NO PROGRAM this Friday (PD Day). Please make alternate arrangements for your children

Municipal Election

We are a polling station for the Municipal Election on Monday, October 22nd. Please be aware that we will have many visitors in the school exercising their right to vote. There will be more traffic in the parking lot and around the school. Please use caution when dropping your children off and picking them up on Monday.

New Math Curriculum

The new government released a new curriculum in math titled “The Fundamentals in Math.”  They have released a teachers and parent fact sheet to introduce the new curriculum. The link is below:

Dropping off Lunches

If you are dropping off lunches for your children, please ensure you do so by 11:00. Students eat lunch from 11:05 – 11:25, and then go outside. There is no supervision available after 11:25 for students to eat lunches.

Outdoor Recesses/ Clothes

As we have moved into cooler weather please ensure your children are dressed for the weather, our recesses are anywhere from 15 – 40 minutes in length in which children are outside playing. The children will be going outside if it is lightly raining or misty – please ensure they have appropriate clothes (rain jackets, coats with hoods, boots) for these days. It is a great idea to ensure your kids have an extra pair of socks, pants, etc in their backpacks in case they get wet and need to change.

Umbrella Project

You can follow the Umbrella Project on social media for additional tips, resources and information. Find all the details here: http://www.umbrellaproject.co/parent-resources/

This month we will be focusing on adding to our Umbrella Skills by focusing on Gratitude.

October Food Drive

Our Fall Food Drive Continues! Please be generous to help support the many families in our community who could use the extra support as we head into the colder weather.

Dance a thon

Our annual Fundraiser has begun! We will be having a Halloween Dance-a-thon on October 31st. Each year School Council sponsors one major fundraiser to support school initiatives. The funds raised go directly to school and classrooms to support student learning. Last year’s funds purchased tablets, math resources, flexible seating in classrooms and sports equipment. Our goal for the school is to raise $8000. With these funds we plan to purchase more flexible workspaces for students in class, as well as added technology and classroom resources, all to improve the learning environment for all students.

Information about the Dance-a-thon and Pledge sheets were sent home with students on Friday. Please assist your children in safely collecting funds for the fundraiser – please note – children are not to go door to door asking strangers for support. We encourage students to ask family and friends only for support. Let’s keep our children safe!

Key dates for the Fundraiser:

Oct 25th – all Pledge forms due to be eligible for Certain Prizes (Chromebook, Most raised, Divisional class winners)

Oct 31st – Halloween Fundraiser Dance and Raffle draws.

Prizes:

As in the past, a great deal of our success is a result of the generosity of our community. One of the motivations for students is the Raffle prizes available on the day of the dance. If you have any items you can donate (small toys, gift certificates, etc) we would truly appreciate it. All donations can be brought to the Office.

Cake and cupcake prizes: Each year we also include a Cake/ cupcake section for our raffle prizes. If you are able to donate a cake or cupcakes for the day – please let Maryann Pierson know (mpierson56@gmail.com).

St Francis Parish

We are very proud of our partnership with St Francis Parish. In order to continue to build on this relationship, each week we will be providing our community with a link to access the Church Bulletin so you may keep yourself apprised of the many events at the Parish.
