VISITOR SIGN-IN/ SAFE SCHOOL PROTOCOL

We would like to remind parents, guardians, and visitors to please only enter the building through our front doors. We ask that no visitor enter through any other door or walk through our hallways regardless of the time of day. Once you have entered, please check in at the main office. Inform office staff of the reason for your visit. We will call the classroom for your child to be sent down. If you are bringing in your child after school begins, please bring him or her to the Office for a late slip and then we will send the child to class. If they need assistance, a staff member will help. This will ensure that we maintain a safe environment for all students and staff and that we adhere to our safe school protocol. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

 WINTER WEATHER REMINDERS

When we experience wintry weather throughout the year families often have many questions. Considering this we are informing the community of the policy that is followed when deciding to keep students indoors during winter. Students will remain inside when temperatures, including wind chill, are at or below minus 20°C. Otherwise, all students will go outside for recesses and lunches. Students must dress for the weather and be prepared to be outside before school, during the two 15-minute recess and the 40-minute lunch break. Consider sending a change of clothes for your son or daughter in case their clothes get wet during recesses.

Please check the weather each day before students leave for school to ensure that they are coming to school dressed appropriately to go outside every day. We are using the Environment Canada weather station website for the information needed to decide on indoor or outdoor recesses. (https://www.theweathernetwork.com)

In the event of severe weather, please listen to the local radio stations for school closure or bus cancellation information beginning at 6:45 a.m. Announcements are made approximately every quarter hour. Additionally, all cancellation updates can be found on the WCDSB website (www.wcdsb.ca) under the Cancellations tab.

Here are some tips for walking to school in the winter:

  • Wear a hat…up to 50% of body heat can be lost through your head, so keep it covered;
  • Walk with smaller steps to improve footing on slippery sidewalks;
  • Wear mittens…they are warmer than gloves;
  • Use a lip protector (such as a lip balm) on your lips;

Walk with a buddy…talk about all the great winter scenery.

Remember – Children who are too ill to go outside for recesses should be resting at home

LHS

Do you have an hour each day between 11 and 12? We are looking for adults to be on our supply list for the Lunch Hour Supervisor position. There is also the possibility of this becoming a permanent position in the future. This is a CUPE position with the School Board. Training is provided. If you are interested, please bring a Resume (including the names and numbers of two references) to the Office. A police check is also required.
