Panthers’ WAG December 11 – 15

Twitter: follow us @wcdsbStPaul to get the latest news and celebrate our #PantherPride!

On December 19th, we are excited to have the entire school going to Landmark Cinemas to see the movie The Star. In The Star, a small but brave donkey named Bo teams up with some lovable new friends to go on an adventure unlike any other.  These lovable animals follow the Star and become accidental heroes in the greatest story ever told – the first Christmas.  The movie ties into many curriculum expectations in our Religion programs and to our School Improvement Plan as we continue to increase student participation in faith-filled activities. Special thanks to our School Council and to ‘a St Jerome’s Boy’ for supporting this experience!

As we begin the second week of Advent our students and staff continue with preparations for Christmas – toys, and food items are being collected for those in need, classrooms are decorated and students are celebrating the Christmas Spirit. Throughout the week, we focus our prayers on preparing for Christmas. On Monday, we will consider how the music of the season brings us closer to Jesus in the manger. The following music videos will be included in our prayer service.

O Come O Come Emmanuel

When Love Was Born

We continue to collect new, unwrapped toys and warm clothes to help families in need this Christmas.  When a student brings in an item they will be able to write their name on an angel and hang it on our Angel Christmas Tree.  We are in particular need of gifts for students in grades 6 – 8.  Each day at morning recess, volunteers will receive donations from students and give them an angel to hang on our tree.

At the same time, November 27th to December 11th, we will also be doing a food drive to help those less fortunate.  Any non-perishable food items (no peanut products please) can be brought to the school and placed in the colour house bins in the Sacred Space.

Your donations for both the Angel Tree and the Christmas Food Hamper Drive will be distributed by the St. Vincent de Paul Society to needy families in the St. Francis Church community.   We thank you in advance for your support of these St. Paul traditions.

We are continuing to develop our ability to solve problems involving proportional reasoning. This month’s Math Challenge is to estimate the height of a Christmas Tree. Be sure to ask your child about how his or her class tried to solve the problem!

At home, you can continue to support your child in developing math skills by playing ‘cool math games’ at the following website: Winter Holiday Math Games

Do you have an hour each day between 11 and 12? We are looking for adults to be on our supply list for the Lunch Hour Supervisor position. There is also the possibility of this becoming a permanent position in the future. This is a CUPE position with the School Board. Training is provided. If you are interested, please bring a Resume (including the names and numbers of two references) to the Office. A police check is also required.

If you are planning a family vacation this winter, please be sure to come to the office to complete the Intent to be Absent form for your children.
