Panthers’ WAG – April 9 – 13, 2018

Monthly Theme: Being a Responsible Citizen

Twitter: follow us @wcdsbStPaul to get the latest news and celebrate our #PantherPride!

This past week the father of Maddie B, a student in grade 8, passed away in a house fire. As a community united through our Catholic Faith, we join together to support Maddie and her family. One of the core beliefs of our faith is that in death we are united with God in Heaven. As St Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “We have an everlasting home in Heaven” (2 Corinthians 5:1). We ask that you keep Maddie and her family in your prayers in the days to follow as they grieve.

We would like to Welcome Ms Nicole Lewis to St Paul. Ms Lewis will be teaching Ms McKenna’s class along with Mrs Robinson, while Ms McKenna recovers from surgery due to an injury.

As part of our focus on being a Responsible Citizen we will be focusing on environmental issues this month. We will be having Boomerang Lunch days throughout the month to help us focus on the amount of waste we produce each day – stay tuned as our grade 8 Eco students announce our Boomerang Lunch schedule.

Save the date – On May 1st from 6 – 8 pm we will be hosting a family wellness night for students and parents. Some of the topics will be: Building healthy and easy lunches, family fitness, and mental wellness. As well we will have a variety of community resources available during the evening. Please see the attached flyer for details

Spring Into Health

For safety reasons, children are prohibited from bringing any form of medication to school without prior approval from the office. This includes all over the counter (Advil, Tylenol, Cold or Allergy medications, etc.) and prescription medications.  If medication is determined to be necessary, there is a form that must be filled out by parents/guardians to indicate that the medication must be taken during school hours. The medication must be in the original container and clearly labelled with names (child, parent/guardian, doctor), phone numbers and directions. All medications will be stored in the office and administered by office staff.  Parents/guardians are asked to contact the school to address individual student needs in this regard.

The WCDSB Student Medication form is available from the office or on the school board website.

Over the next few weeks, we will be introducing a new Math Resource in our classrooms. Knowledgehook, is now a Board approved “Green Tool” which ensures student information is stored in a secure manner.  This online, interactive math resource will support student learning in grades 3-8. Knowledgehook will provide additional math support and instruction for learning both in the classroom and also for differentiated home-practice. If you have any questions or concerns about this program please speak to your child’s classroom teacher.

In spite of the snow and cold, we have a Spring Math Challenge for you!
