Panther Community, Week 32

I want to take a moment to let you know how happy I am to be a part of this lovely St. Paul community. I believe that working in education is a vocation. It is my privilege to work with students and the staff who support their learning. When making decisions and seeking collaboration, I aspire to always regard our faith, ensure our whole community is safe and consider what is in the best interests of the students we serve. I believe that education is a partnership and I look forward to working collaboratively with each of you to ensure everyone reaches their fullest potential!

Return to School: School Boards have not received any updated information for returning school. As of today, there is no projected return to school date.  Please continue to listen to news media and check for the most recent news on potential return dates.

We did it~ AGAIN!

We may be remote … but learning is still happening! We are all getting better at understanding what works for children when learning at home. Our hope is that we keep working together to support the children, not only with their online academics but with some social and emotional learning too during the pandemic. This week is both Catholic Education Week and Canadian Mental Health Week. Even though at this point remote learning is not new to us, we still need to offer ourselves some grace with all the changes we continue to experience in our lives this year.

Welcome to May at the Umbrella Project! Last month we focused our attention on demonstrating Self-Efficacy and this month we are adding the skill of Optimism!! We will celebrate our April Students of the Month when we return to school. We all remain hopeful for that!!

What is Optimism?

Optimism is the belief that good things will happen, with the knowledge that obstacles are a part of life and we should be prepared for them. It means thinking positively about the future and focusing on the good that is around us. Success can be challenging, and if we defeat ourselves in our minds with a negative outlook before we get started, it can really hurt our chances of reaching our goals.            April Shower Bring May Flowers ~ Umbrella Campaign

Outcomes of Having Optimism

  • Leads to better health
  • Helps us cope with stress
  • Increases our courage
  • Leads to higher grades
  • Energizes us to reach future goals

We look forward to seeing our Panthers demonstrating Optimism!!!

Keep up your SPIRIT! Every Wednesday is Spirit Day! Even while learning at home staff and students are encouraged to show their Panther Pride by wearing their spirit wear OR red, black, and white!

Attendance Matters

Regular school attendance is important to achieve and develop a strong foundation for learning and success. Even in virtual learning, we are taking attendance every morning & afternoon. Please remember to continue to call the school and leave a message if your child is going to be absent and/or joining late.

Extended Day Pre-Registration

Reminder: The Waterloo Catholic District School Board assesses the viability of the Extended Day Program at all schools every year. A program is determined viable when there is sufficient parental interest. Parents demonstrate their interest by pre-registering for the Extended Day Program between January and April. Parents will be notified in or around May if the Extended Day Program will be offered at their school. Once a location has been determined viable, registration is ongoing, and children may enroll throughout the school year.

Please review the attached message regarding extended day programming and pre-registration.
